Retail network — pay bills in cash at a till

Payment options — retail network

pay in cash,
at the till.

In a country where most people still reach for cash to pay a bill, a till point is the payment channel that reaches everyone. Your customers pay with cash or card at a retailer near them and walk out with an itemised receipt.

How it works

A simple process at the till.

Four steps, and the payment is confirmed against the account before the customer leaves the store.

Customer asks to pay a bill

At the till point of any retailer in the Pay@ network.

They give their reference number

The cashier captures the unique Pay@ reference number, scans the barcode, or scans the QR code.

They pay with cash or card

Cash, debit card or credit card — whichever they have on them.

Payment is confirmed

The payment is validated against the account and amount, and the customer gets an itemised receipt.

Why it matters

Why a till point matters.

Financial inclusionA customer with no bank account and no card can still settle an account in full, on time.
Groceries and bills in one tripPaying a bill while doing the weekly shop removes a separate errand from the customer’s week.
Reach beyond the formal economyInformal traders extend the network into communities that formal retail does not reach.
Validated before it is acceptedCash payments are checked against the account and amount in real time, so they reconcile like any digital payment.
